eMethanol, a green methanol fuel, is produced by combining captured biogenic carbon dioxide with hydrogen derived from renewable electricity sources. The carbon dioxide is captured, stored, and incorporated into the eMethanol fuel. During combustion, the stored carbon dioxide is released, and the resulting waste carbon dioxide from the recovery process can be recycled as a renewable fuel, effectively replacing fossil fuels and preventing new carbon dioxide emissions. This closed-loop system contributes to sustainable energy practices by minimizing the overall carbon footprint and promoting a circular economy for carbon utilization.
Transportation Fuel | Chemical Industry | Renewable Energy Storage |
Green methanol can be used as a clean-burning fuel for various modes of transportation, including cars, buses, trucks, ships, and airplanes. It has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution compared to traditional fossil fuels. | Green methanol serves as a valuable chemical feedstock for various chemical processes, including the production of plastics, solvents, adhesives, and synthetic materials. | Methanol can be used as a means of storing renewable energy. Through methanol synthesis using renewable hydrogen and captured CO2, excess renewable energy can be stored as methanol and later used for electricity generation when needed. |
Power Generation | Industrial Heating | Hydrogen Carrier |
Green methanol can be utilized in fuel cells or conventional internal combustion engines to generate electricity for stationary power applications, such as backup generators or distributed power systems. | Methanol can be used as a fuel for industrial heating applications, replacing traditional fossil fuels like natural gas or coal, leading to reduced carbon emissions. | Methanol can serve as a safe and efficient carrier for hydrogen, as it contains a high percentage of hydrogen by weight. It can be easier to transport and store than gaseous hydrogen. |
